This classic stir fry recipe can be ready to eat in just 15 minutes. Umami is a flavor used to describe this savory, Asian dish. Flavorful and fast, this recipe is one you’ll likely turn to when you’re short on time–and even when you are not!
Tofu and Broccoli Stir-Fry
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil divided
- 1 container of extra firm tofu cubed
- Sea salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
- 1 head broccoli chopped into small florets, stems discarded
- ½ cup green onions thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
- 3 tablespoons tamari sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
- 2 tablespoons raw honey
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 garlic clove minced
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large saute pan over mediumhigh heat.
- Add tofu and season with sea salt and pepper (a generous pinch of each is usually plenty).
- Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tofu is golden brown and slightly crispy.
- While the chicken or tofu is cooking, make the sauce by whisking together all sauce ingredients.
- Once tofu has browned, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and broccoli, and stir to combine.
- Continue cooking for another 3 minutes, until the broccoli is bright green.
- Stir in the tamari mixture, and cook for an additional minute until the sauce has thickened.
- Remove from heat and garnish with green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
