A slow metabolism will make it nearly impossible for you to lose weight.
If you have a slow metabolism, your body goes from thriving to surviving. In other words, while your normal (subconscious) metabolic functions continue keeping you alive, your ability to have energy, lose weight, and live a healthy lifestyle suffers significantly.
In a nutshell, your metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy.
Since we can agree on this important concept that not all calories are created equal, we can confidently state that if you’re eating and drinking foods that aren’t ideal for a fast metabolism, you’re doing the opposite.
The foods you eat or drink can either speed up or slow down your metabolism
Same goes for the exercise you choose, the habits you have, and your overall lifestyle.
Here are 31 Signs Your Metabolism Is Sluggish:
- ADD or ADHD (attention deficit syndrome) symptoms (NOT a diagnosis)
- Anxiety or panic attacks
- Cholesterol increases: total cholesterol, LDL “bad” cholesterol, and/or triglycerides
- Low levels of HDL “good” cholesterol
- Chronic fatigue
- IBS, Diarrhea, Constipation, and Colitis
- Prediabetes and/or insulin resistance
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Gestational diabetes (occurs during pregnancy)
- Fibromyalgia
- GERD (gastric reflux disease)
- High blood pressure or recent increases in blood pressure
- Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
- Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
- Infertility related to hormonal imbalance
- Metabolic syndrome
- Midline fat deposits (a roll around your middle) and increasing weight without increasing food intake
- Osteoarthritis
- Osteoporosis or osteopenia
- PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)
- Sleep apnea
- Sleep disturbances
- Cellulite, dry skin, and other skin issues
- Low body temperature
- You can’t lose weight no matter how much you exercise
- Trouble losing weight even if “eating healthy”
- Unmotivated to lose weight because of lack of progress
- Unable to manage stress, emotions, mood, etc…
- Gaining weight even when eating very few calories
- Uncontrollable/unexplainable cravings during the day and late at night
