When was the last time you felt truly great? Free from fatigue, bloating, skin issues or aches and pains?
If you can’t remember, it isn’t your fault. You feel this way because you’re toxic, and have been since before you were born.
I mean this in the most literal way possible. Did you know that most of us are exposed to more than 200 dangerous toxins before we even leave the womb, and that the deadly buildup only continues from there (1)?
Then, once you leave the not-so-safe safety of your mother’s womb, you arrive unprepared to face an onslaught of chemicals and heavy metals like mercury from tooth fillings, phthalates from plastics, pesticides in food, petrochemicals in fragrances, and fire retardants on your couch, just to name a few.
Toxin Buildup in Your Body
Before you dismiss this and say your body can handle it on its own, let’s be clear that the effects of these chemicals clearly show the opposite.
The fact that these toxins have been linked to brain damage, nervous system damage, developmental problems, organ damage, and yes, even cancer, shows that your body is most definitely not able to handle them on its own (1).
The worst part is that these toxins build up over time in your tissues, where they remain as your body waits for an optimal time to flush them out without making you sick.
Unfortunately, that time rarely comes, since from one day to the next you’re constantly exposed to and consuming more and more toxins.
The cycle is endless, insidious, and scary. Scary because most of the early symptoms of toxin overload are rather mild (compared to cancer, that is). These include feeling tired all the time, being constantly bloated or having digestive issues, gaining weight or holding on to fat, and having dull, break-out prone skin.
While it would be nearly impossible to live in society and avoid all of these chemicals, there is something you can do to help your body get rid of them faster.
Toxins, Digestion, and Skipping Breakfast
Now I know you’re probably panicking right now at the thought of all of these toxins causing problems in your body.
Fortunately, you can help your body eliminate a huge amount of them every day, just by doing one simple thing:
Stop eating breakfast. Or, rather, “break” your “fast” around lunch time.
Yes, for years the idea that “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” has been pounded into your head. You’ve been told that skipping it will lead to huge blood sugar crashes, irritability, and most certain death if you don’t down several bowls of sugary cereal with hormone-laden milk every morning.
I am here to tell you that’s far from the case, and I say that because of science and multiple peer-reviewed studies.
Fast-Track Your Metabolism
For instance, you’ve probably been told that going without food for a few hours puts your body into “starvation mode,” where all weight loss will cease and you’ll begin to waste away.
If you think about it, this would make sense for early humans who needed energy to hunt for their next meal. If they immediately went into starvation mode every few hours without food and became lethargic and weak, the human race probably wouldn’t be here.
So now that you know that fasting does not hurt you or your metabolism, we can really get to the good stuff. Fasting has a whole host of other benefits – from increased insulin sensitivity to reduced blood pressure and increasing your cells’ resistance to stress (4).
But to return to the main point, fasting also gives all of the organs in your body a break, allowing them to “clean house,” so to speak, of toxins.
Let Your Detox Organs Do Their Job
Some of the major organs involved in detoxification such as the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys are often overburdened not only by the toxins covered earlier like pesticides and chemicals, but also by constant eating.
Pictured: Detoxification Organs – Liver, Kidney, and Gallbladder
When you’re eating every few hours, the kidneys are kept from their role of filtering toxins from your blood, your liver has to focus on helping process food instead of removing toxins, and your gallbladder has to focus on storing bile produced by your liver and emulsifying fats.
In other words, when these powerful detox organs are constantly focused on digesting food, they have no time to fully concentrate on removing toxins from your body. When you fast, these organs can get to work on filtering your blood and removing waste.
But even still, they’ll need a little help before they can run at maximum detox capacity.
Beyond Fasting: The Toxin Flush
As you can see, fasting by skipping breakfast goes a long way in helping your body detox. However, it still needs help to flush toxins, especially the resistant ones like mercury and other chemicals.
This is where a simple combination of natural ingredients, taken first thing in the morning during your fast, come in.
The base ingredients you need to be drinking every morning are fresh lemon juice and apple cider vinegar (ACV). This is because these two ingredients stimulate the liver, preparing it to remove toxins and wastes, while also reducing the harmful stress of these toxins on both your liver and kidneys (5).
Your gallbladder is also better prepared to get rid of toxins with lemon and ACV. This is because they help to flush out gallstones and other waste material that might be lodged in your gallbladder channels, blocking toxin-removing pathways.
If you’ve ever cleaned your counters with apple cider vinegar, you’ll know it works well at dissolving debris. Imagine the same cleansing effect in your liver, kidneys, and gallbladder.
Lemon juice in particular also contains vitamin C, which helps produce glutathione, a powerful antioxidant that aids in detoxification (6).
Help Eliminate Harmful Substances
Along with these two detoxifiers, adding chlorella to this mix is something you should definitely consider as well, especially if you want to remove heavy metals from your body.
Chlorella, a type of green algae, is particularly effective at binding to and helping your body eliminate dangerous metals like mercury, as well as chemicals from plastics and insecticides. It essentially pulls these from your digestive tract, muscles, and bones, where they are often stored (7).
Other ingredients, like spirulina, alfalfa, and barley grass are other powerful greens that can supercharge your detox by alkalizing your body.
This is an important part of detoxing and overall health, as your body functions optimally in a slightly alkaline state. Unfortunately, modern diets are full of acid-forming foods like processed meats and sugar, while lacking in alkaline, mineral rich fruits and veggies.
The 30-Second Toxin Flush Recipe
You see, sometimes when you think of people who are doing a detox, or who are eating twelve servings of veggies a day, you think of people who have a lot of available time to chop, blend, sprout, and cook everything from scratch.
- 500 mL water
- 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (with mother)
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 scoop greens powder of your choice (here’s a good one)
1.) Combine all the ingredients and sip upon waking. If you’re having this before breakfast, wait at least 30 minutes before eating.
Flushing Out the Toxins
As I mentioned earlier, completely avoiding toxins in modern society is next to impossible. This is why it is essential to help your body deal with this unnatural toxin overload on a daily basis.
You’ll likely notice that you’ll feel lighter and mentally refreshed once you start giving toxins the boot with this flush recipe. Many of my readers have mentioned an increase in energy that lasts throughout their day, just by incorporating this drink.
You may have been born toxic, but free will (and this detox drink) will make sure you don’t stay that way.
