10 Super Fat-Burning Foods

fwfl_blog_10 super fat burning foods

To be perfectly honest, there is really no such thing as a “fat-burning” food.

A food either creates health or it takes it away, sometimes it’s more complicated than that, but that’s a good way to keep your food choices simple.

This list of fat-burning foods are really just 10 foods that can get your healthy, boost your metabolism, build lean muscle, regulate your hormones, and balance your blood sugar.

When you focus on the list I just gave you, there are A LOT of fat-burning foods.

Here’s a good place to start.

10 Foods That Will Help You Burn Fat All Day

1.) Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is high in saturated fats, specifically lauric acid.

Coconut oil stimulates thyroid (T3), which in turn, boosts metabolic rate. The indirect goal of any food and meal is to maintain and increase metabolism so that you keep your immunity up and your cells producing energy, so consuming coconut oil and avoiding canola oil would be in your best interest if fat loss is your direct goal.

The use of coconut oil provides energy to stabilize blood sugar while protecting mitochondria and the thyroid.

The best way to start consuming coconut oil is to cook, sauté, fry, and bake your meals with 1 or 2 Tbsp.

2.) Eggs

Eggs are nutritional powerhouses loaded with protein, saturated fat, and many nutrients and minerals.

Eggs are extremely nutrient dense. Eggs are often referred to as “natures multivitamin” because they are packed with the best of the best when it comes to macro and micronutrients. Even the eggshell has the highest concentration of bioavailable calcium of any other food.

Seriously, if you aren’t eating good quality eggs your health and waistline will suffer.

WHY should you eat them? B-vitamins, selenium, Vitamin A, Choline, Folate, Lutein and Zeaxanthin, and protein.

Healthy Fat Loss Snack Tip: Make a batch of hard-boiled eggs for the week. Grab an egg or two and a couple of apples to have as a snack

3.) Blueberries

Blueberries are an excellent source of fructose, which helps feed the cells for energy metabolism and production.

Blueberries are high in polyphenols AND antioxidants, which help reduce inflammation by destroying free radicals.

Blueberries are high in manganese, which also plays an important role in energy metabolism and in maintaining the health of your bones, tendons, and ligaments.

Blueberries are high in Vitamin C which helps increase the strength of your immune system.

Healthy Fat Loss Snack Tip: A handful of blueberries and a few almonds are a great snack to keep you full and your blood sugar happy

4.) Salmon

Eating two or three servings of fish a week is a simple way to improve your health and stave off certain illnesses and diseases. Salmon is one of the most nutritious types of fish to add to your diet. It supplies iron, zinc, niacin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12, in addition to a whole host of other nutrients you need for good health.

I always sense a hint of frustration whenever I have to say “wild-caught” in  front of fish, because 200 years ago, ALL fish was wild, because you had to actually go fishing for it. Nowadays, we have to navigate through the grocery store fish market searching for “farm-raised” or “wild-caught”. If that’s how most of us “catch” our dinner these days, so be it.

Wild-caught fish is nutritionally and ethically better for you and the environment. Good quality protein source, minerals , and vitamins (A and D), with generally low levels of stress hormones and toxins. Unless you are consuming farmed fish like most tilapia, salmon, and catfish then you are getting antibiotics, poor quality protein, and unnaturally raised fish.

Why Salmon over other fish? Salmon’s Omega 3 content is superior to most fish, aside from Sardines and well I didn’t want to add Sardines to the menu, just yet!

5.) Avocado

Avocados are high in monounsaturated fats. These fats are shows to reduce abdominal fat when used to replace dietary polyunsaturated fat.

Avocados are also a great source of fiber, so the combination or fiber and fats, avocados are the perfect food for your hunger hormones.

Healthy Fat Burning Snack Tip: Sprinkle a very tiny amount of celery salt (it’s strong!!) on your avocado slices with half of an apple for a fat-burning snack.

6.) Carrots

A carrot a day keeps the Dr. away! That is, if you are a believer that health begins in the gut. You should at least understand that your digestive system is crucial for creating healthy fat loss in women. Carrots have a unique ability to remove harmful endotoxins and excess estrogen from your gut, thus helping with liver detoxification.

Why carrots?

Estrogen excess: Eating raw carrots can prevent the absorption of estrogen from the intestines, allowing the liver to detox excess estrogen, this in turn helps thyroid function as most T4 to T3 conversion happens here.

Bowel: Carrots increase bowel health and function, mainly through the reduction of harmful endotoxin. Use raw carrot (in the salad form, see below) to reduce endotoxin. Endotoxins are produced from excess stress, aging, alcohol etc…which in general tend to inflame the gut.

Antimicrobial: Since carrots defense mechanisms’ are centered around microscopic organisms, they serve as a way of fighting off potentially harmful bacteria and helping balance gut microflora.

Healthy Fat Burning Snack Tip: Make a carrot salad to eat in between meals.

½ to 1 medium carrot, shredded

1 Tbsp.  coconut oil

½ tsp. Apple Cider Vinegar

Pinch of salt

Shred carrots and mix rest of ingredients.

7.) Grapefruit

No, this is not to be confused with the neve-rending “lose-weight quick grapefruit diet scams.”

Contrary to belief, eating JUST a grapefruit for every day will NOT in and of itself help you lose weight. However, grapefruit is a powerhouse fruit you should incorporate into your diet on a regular basis.

Grapefruit can accelerate fat loss because of its healthy amount of fructose, which can supply much needed energy to your cells.

Your cells make ATP, which turn your metabolism into a fat-torching machine!

Healthy Fat Burning Snack Tip: Add a pinch of sea salt to your grapefruit and combine it with a few ounces of grass-fed cheese!

8.) Cheese

Cheese makes for the PERFECT healthy superfood snack. Its portable, easily proportioned, AND contains a good amount of protein.

Cheese should be organic and ideally grass-fed to stay away from conventionally fed dairy products that are fed GMO grains, hormones, and antibiotics.

Healthy Fat Burning Snack: Combine your cheese with a ½ cup of papaya for a mid-morning snack that keeps your blood sugar stabilized and your metabolism going strong all morning.

9.) Oysters

Who doesn’t LOVE oysters?

Oysters are the absolute best source of zinc, which is vital for performance, energy production, and body composition.

Oysters also supply good amounts of iron and selenium (essential for thyroid health). Vitamins A and D along with DHA and EPA.

Selenium, also found in wild-caught shrimp is required for T4 to T3 conversion, which controls your metabolism.

Healthy Fat Burning Snack Tip: When you don’t have access to oysters by the bay, grab wild canned oysters and eat them with a few slices of watermelon.

10.) Apple

The old saying is “an apple a day keeps the Dr. away”, however maybe we should start saying “An apple keeps the pounds at bay…and the Dr. away.”

Apples are packed with disease-fighting vitamins, antioxidants and more, making one of the top-ranked fruits for your health.

Apples have been shown to fight diseases like diabetes, cancer, and obesity.

Apple fun fact: Many of apples health benefits are contained in the skin, so make sure to eat the WHOLE apple.

Healthy Fat Burning Snack Tip: Sliced apples with cheese or coconut butter supplies the perfect afternoon snack pick-me-up!
